Why is ocean blue even when the water is clear?
Water soaks up the colours of the sun light like red and purple and reflects the colours like blue and green and that is why the water appears blue even when it is clear.
When the water is dirty or has things like algae, colours like red will reflect of the little bits of sand and dirt in the water to make a reddish colour.
Where the water is shallow and very clean the water appears clear as it is not deep enough for the light to reflect.
